Objectives of BITS:
The Botswana Information technology society is a voluntary professional body established for the purpose of achieving the following objectives:
- To develop and promote the integrity and competence of the Information Technology (IT) profession through:
- acceptable performance standards for the IT profession. These standards are to be documented by way of codes of conduct and practice.
- the development of standards for the education and training of the IT professional.
- the promotion of legislation designed to protect the integrity of the profession.
- To provide leadership and direction in the area of Information technology.
- To provide a forum for exchange of views among IT professionals and users.
- To promote professional interaction between the academia and industry aimed at cross-fertilization of ideas that could lead to better IT utilization and training standards in Botswana.
- To provide advice to individuals and organizations who are potential users of IT.
- To pursue the ideal of a highly respected Society of IT professionals with proven high standards of performance and ethical conduct.
- To engage in any lawful activities whose goal is to mobilize resources for the purpose of furthering the objectives of the Society.
- To establish contact with other national, regional and international professional bodies for exchange of ideas.
- To protect the interest of the society as enshrined in this constitution.
